Welcome to our review of the Aircon Ducts kit available as part of the Dark City 30 range from Multiverse Gaming, we’ve already reviewed their beautiful Corner Apartment Building, so check that out it you’ve not seen it. This is a modular terrain kit that is compatible with 25-28mm tabletop wargames and skirmish games such as Warhammer 40k or the Batman Miniatures Game, and is priced at 9.95 Euro (around $11) for the two laser-cut sheets you can see below.
This is the thicker sheet which appears to be MDF, and contains the bulk of the laser-cut parts needed for these terrain pieces.
The second sheet is thinner and most notably contains the parts that will make up the curved panels on the corner blocks. These curved panels are achieved by scoring along lines that have already been marked by the laser.
Following the downloadable instructions for this kit available on the Multiverse Gaming site, we were quickly able to create the modular parts shown below, all it took was a hobby knife and some PVA glue.
Here we have the 4 straight sections you can build from this kit, that’s 2 long aircon ducts (27x27x108mm) and 2 short aircon ducts (27x27x54mm). We’ve also included a 28mm Warhammer 40k Imperial Guardsman miniature for scale in this and several of the following photos in this review.
Here you can see the eight corner pieces (27x27x27mm).
The last 2 pieces of this modular set are the 2 “T” intersections (27x27mm). These are great for connecting multiple sections of ducting together in one place.
So lets see how these modular part fit together, we’ll start with one of the T intersections…
Here we have added a long section of straight ducting…
A corner piece at the end…
We can also build vertically by adding this short section of straight ducting…
And add another corner piece to the end. As you can see these pieces fit together nicely and although you could glue them in place permanently as part of your terrain, its a lot of fun coming up with and being able to use different layouts in your games.
The simplest shapes you can make with these parts are probably these low sections as shown below.
From there we can build something a little higher, which would completely block line of sight to 28mm minis hiding behind it.
From there we can build much taller and more interesting systems of ducts for minis to fight across.
This is actually a lot of fun, here are some other layouts you can make. Remember, all layouts shown in this review are constructed from a single kit. Imagine what you could build with more than one of these!
Ideally you’d want to use these Aircon Ducts in combination with your other buildings and terrain, and it works well for this purpose. Here you can see we’ve used the Aircon Duct parts to build around a building (in this case a white box!) to create some interesting 3D cover to fight around.
Modular terrain kits like this are a lot of fun to assemble and allow you to change up your terrain every time you play. As you saw in the photos above, you can make many layouts with just this one kit. This kit was easy and quick to build and gives you a range of part to use as scatter terrain, or you can combine them into a larger system providing interesting cover and vantage points to fight over in your games. If you’re a Batman Miniatures player this is perfect for you, but it will also work well for players of other skirmish and wargames like Infinity and Necromunda.
