Iron Guard Allies: Mechanicus Inquisitor Conversion

inquisitor coteaz adeptus mechanicus techpriest conversionWe’ve got another addition to our heavily converted Iron Guard army to show you today, a Techpriest conversion representing Inquisitor Torquemada Coteaz in our allied Grey Knight force. As with the Jokaero conversions we previously built this conversion will also be Adeptus Mechanicus themed, the plan being that this Techpriest will be leading a small Mechanicus Explorator force allied with our Iron Guard Space Marines in our games of Warhammer 40k.

Inquisitor Coteaz is powerful character with great rules, so we couldn’t pass up the chance to use him in our allied force. He also allows you to take squads of Grey Knight Henchmen as troop choices which leaves us open to create some Adeptus Mechanicus Skitarii conversions in future. We decided we could create a good ‘counts as’ Coteaz model on a Mechanicus theme using one of the older Techmarine models, and here’s what we came up with…

As you can see our Techpriest is equipped with plenty of armour to represent Coteaz’s 2+ save. We represented his Daemon Hammer with a heavy looking ‘Power Wrench’ which uses the arm and Thunder Hammer handle from the Iron Hands conversion parts, along with a wrench head built from plasticard. We decided that Coteaz’s random number of ranged attacks (normally granted via his familiar) could instead be from this unusual looking cannon built into his arm, which is converted from an old style Terminator heavy flamer.

Coteaz also has a useful skill which allows him to target models coming in from reserve, so we represented this on our Techpriest conversion with lots of backpack-mounted communication and targeting gear. Lastly, no Techpriest model is complete without some servo-arms or mechadendrites, and so we added some which we made using our Masq Mini TubeTool, with small plasticard manipulators on the end.

Below you can see the family photo, showing the scale of our Techpriest against our other conversions. His artificer armour and various bionics have brought him to a similar height as one of our Tactical Marines, but he is still dwarfed by our Master of the Forge model.

Our Iron Guard allied force is still small in number, but we have high hopes for it. Here you can see our new Techpriest conversion along with the ‘counts as’ Jokaero which will be part of his squad.

We’re please to add another Adeptus Mechanicus themed model to our collection, and are happy with how this conversion turned out. We think we’ve managed to make him look dangerous without challenging our Master of the Forge conversion who will be the main warlord of our force – what do you think? We’re also pleased to find a use for this old Techmarine model, the old ones are actually quite a bit shorter than the newer kits, but we think they represent an artificer armoured inquisitor well. In future we look forward to working on more of this allied force, most likely a group of skitarii to bulk out this squad and possibly a Mechanicus themed Chimera transport to put them in. Let us know what you think of this conversion, do you like it? Are there things you would have done differently?
