Here’s another update on our heavily converted and Adeptus Mechanicus themed Space Marine chapter, the Iron Guard. Last time we showed you how our Warhammer 40k Iron Guard Tactical Marines were coming along, and this time it’s their Rhino transports. Be sure to check out our other Iron Guard Conversions if you’ve not already seen them.
We’ve built 3 of these Space Marine Rhino conversions so far to go with our Tactical Squads, and one of the first things you can see is that each one is fitted with a dozer blade from the Imperial Guard tank sprue, Rhinos just look so much meaner with a dozer blade on the front!
Taking a closer look, there are a few more differences between this and a standard Rhino kit. We have an Adeptus Mechanicus symbol on the front and side – this has been press moulded using Oyumaru (see our Oyumaru Tutorial) from the engine on a Land Raider. There’s also a few extra tech details from our bits box and extra panels made from plasticard. Just as with our Tactical Marines, even these Rhinos get their own servo arms too!
One of the main pieces of work on these Rhinos are the scratch built servo arms. Each of these is magnetised to the tank so that is can spin 360 degrees, and you can open and extend the arm to position it as desired. These represent the special rule Rhinos have, with which they can be repaired if they get immobilized on the battlefield.
Here’s one of the Rhinos along with an Iron Guard Tactical Marine for scale. This one also has some extra antennas on, held in place by a magnet – we forgot to attach these in most of the above pics – doh!
So far this year we’ve had an update on the Iron Guard Tactical Marines and their Rhino transports, and we’ve got lots more to share with you from this army in the near future. Check back soon for updates on our previous Iron Guard Conversions, plus plenty of new stuff including heavily converted dreadnoughts, tanks, and even an Imperial Knight.
