Iron Guard Space Marines: 1st Tactical Squad Conversions

iron guard 1st bionic tactical marines squadNot long ago we showed you our heavily converted Master of the Forge model, marking the beginning of the work on our custom Space Marine chapter for Warhammer 40k, the Iron Guard (click here if your missed it). We’re back, this time with the first of our troop choices, the humble Space Marine Tactical Squad. Rather than assemble the Tactical Squad as standard, we decided that to tie in with the Adeptus Mechanicus theme we would heavily convert every single model to have bionic limbs, servo arms, and more.

Meet the squad sergeant. This model has been upgraded with 2 small servo arms to represent his extra attack, and wields both a bolt pistol and combi-plasma weapon. Both arms are magnetised so that he can be given a powerfist or other wargear if required. Any white pieces you can see are scratchbuilt with plasticard, with most of the other pieces coming from various Space Marine kits.

This battle brother carries upgraded communications equipment on his backpack, wields a metal boltgun from the Iron Hands kit, and has had a replacement bionic leg which came from Maxmini.

The special weapons expert of the squad is shown with a plasma gun, but with the aid of small magnets in his hands, any of the special weapons can be used as required. He carries his own backpack mounted servo arm, and has bionic upgrades to his leg and foot.

The last of the bolter equipped marines has a bionic right arm and leg, and backpack mounted communications gear. His bolter has an attached chain-bayonet.

The tenth squad member is the heavy weapons specialist, with his weapon of choice, the multi-melta. His bionic right leg helps support the weight of the heavy weapons, and various cables connect the marine with the weapon and its power source. Magnets in this marines shoulders and back allow other heavy weapons to be equipped as needed.

We’re very happy with how these conversions have turned out, quite different from your average space marines, yet still instantly recognisable as a Tactical Squad. It took us a long time to collect the parts required to build a squad like this, especially considering every single marine has the torso and mechanicus shoulder pad from the Space Marine vehicle kits, plus bionically enhanced helmets from kits like the command squad box, devastators, and again, space marine vehicles. If you have any similar parts you’d like to donate towards this army, please give us a shout via email!

Currently none of the bolters are glued to these marines to make it easier to paint in future (we are still working out a colour scheme). We plan to continue work on this army with more bionically enhanced troops, and other units we feel fit the theme of this army, like Dreadnoughts and Thunderfire Cannons. All will be heavily converted so keep checking back!
