Our friends at Kromlech have sent us 2 character minis for review that will no doubt appeal to Warhammer 40k Ork players. Kromlech are a Polish company who produce highly detailed resin minis including their own range of WW2 themed Orcs, superhuman legionaries, conversion parts and hobby tools/materials.
We’ve seen quite a few kits from Kromlech and continue to be impressed with the amazing level of detail and character in their minis. Both of these characters arrived in blister packs as shown below:
Here’s General Otto von Rehrborg, Kromlech describe him as “Iron Reich engineer genius known for designing many lethal engines of destruction, tanks and weaponry.” He’s a 28mm Heroic scaled mini and is priced at £10.14 or $15.50.
Here you can see the 7 resin parts plus the 25mm plastic base that come in this kit. The level of detail here is impressive, and the casting quality is great.
Our second model is Kromlech’s Orc Freak. This one is also priced at £10.14 or $15.50 and Kromlech describe it as a “combat psyker ready to unleash volleys of psychic energy on his foes. He is armed with Krackling Staff used to focus arcane energies or bash enemy soldiers which are too close.”
Here you can see the parts that come in the Orc Freak kit including 6 resin part and the 25mm round plastic base.
As these are resin kits we’ll be using super glue to assemble the miniatures, and this actually something the Kromlech have added to their own range of modelling accessories. Kromlech sell both a ‘normal’ and ‘thick’ super glue, both of which come with pointy precision nozzles to ensure the glue ends up exactly where you want it.
Both of these glues are priced at £2.89 or $4.42 and can be used with metal, resin and plastic models (although we would recommend a plastic glue for plastics!). Our personal favourite is the thick version as it fills any little holes or gaps when you are attaching two parts together.
Using our Kromlech super glue, it was a quick job to assemble General Otto von Rehrborg – check out the amount of detail on this guy! As normal with minis we’ve received from Kromlech, General Otto is brimming with character and is insanely detailed.
Not only does he come with a huge power klaw and shield generator backpack, but there’s lots of other touches like his monocle, detailed clothing, hes even wearing a ring on his finger. This is a very impressive amount of detail allowing this character to really standout as a hero in your army. He’d make a great Big Mek, or even a Warboss if you don’t attach his backpack.
Here is our second assembled character, the Orc Freak, again an absolutely huge amount of crisp details have been captured in this 28mm miniature. This guy would make a great Weird Boy in Warhammer 40k with his staff, twisted face and many little charms and talismans. He’s also riddled with crude wiring and bionic enhancements in true Orky fashion.
Here’s the pair together.
To give you an idea of scale, here are our resin Kromlech character minis along with a few plastic Warhammer 40k Ork Boyz. As you can see they fit well in terms of theme but will definitely still stand out a s special characters.
Kromlech seem to be going from strength to strength with their Orc minis, the quality of the casting is very good and the level of detail in the sculpts is stunning. We’ll be making use of these minis in our Warhammer 40k Ork force, but they’d also work well in similarly themed games like Warpath, or just as a highly detailed painting project.
