ROAR!! It’s time to take a look at the Gargantuan Red Dragon that is the premium figure from the Paizo/WizKids Pathfinder Battles: Dungeons Deep range of miniatures. We’ve already reviewed the small/medium/large miniatures that come in the standard boosters, if you’ve not already seen it check out our Pathfinder Battles: Dungeons Deep Booster Review. This is the 45th figure in the Dungeons Deep set and is a pre-painted plastic representation of a terrifying dragon for use in your tabletop RPG sessions. You should be able to pick your own one of these premium figures up for around $49.99.
The front of the premium figure box shows us some great looking artwork of a Gargantuan Red Dragon wreaking havoc from atop a ruined wall.
The sides of the box both show us this 3D render of what the model should look like, if it does look like this then it will be a very intimidating figure indeed!
The back of the box lets us know a little about the fearsome Gargantuan Red Dragon, and it’s fiery breath.
Opening up the box, we’ve got our Gargantuan Red Dragon figure which has been very well protected in its box by a vacuum formed plastic shell and a twist-tie to keep it in place.
Removing all packaging we have a very solid and scary looking beast. This instantly feels a bit more beefy than the gargantuan dragons we’ve seen from the recent Dungeons & Dragons: Icons of the Realms sets, we feel sorry for any adventurers who have to take this monster on!
We’ve taken a few photos of this pre-painted plastic figure from different angles to try and capture how awesome this terrifying creature is.
Just as with other miniatures in the Pathfinder Battles range, this figure has the set initials, creature name, and set number beneath its base.
There’s some great sculpting and details going on here, check out the spikes running from this dragons snout, all down it’s neck and back continuing down the legs.
The head sculpt is great with its sharp teeth and tongue, it looks very menacing.
The wings are another area with a lot of nice texture and detail.
The scales are particularly well sculpted running down the neck and belly of this brute.
To give you an idea of scale, here is the Gargantuan Red Dragon alongside the Half-Orc Adept, an averagely sized humanoid from the Dungeons Deep set. …He’s going to need a bigger boat.
Just for a chuckle, here is the Gargantuan Red Dragon alongside the smallest mini in the Dungeons Deep set (and the smallest pre-painted miniature we are aware of!), the Bat.
Comparing the Pathfinder Battles Gargantuan Red Dragon with the Ancient Silver Dragon from the Dungeons and Dragons Elemental Evil set, we can see that the Gargantuan Red has a larger and more muscular build, although they still work well together.
This is the first Gargantuan Dragon we own from the Pathfinder Battles range, and we’re impressed. It’s hulking build and menacing features give it a lot of presence on the tabletop, and it will surely strike fear into any adventuring party. A great piece for RPG players, mini collectors or just to put on display. Let us know what you think of this gargantuan monster in the comments below.
