Ruined Bridge and Sewer Entrances Review

dlcd ruined bridge and sewer entranceToday we’ve got 2 more laser-cut terrain kits to show you, both are 28mm scale and are from  Demo’s Laser-Cut Designs who specialise in low cost, green alternatives to resin terrain. We’ve previously looked at DLCDs Steampunk Factory and Antenna Tower kits (see here) but today we are opening up their Ruined Bridge and their Above Grade Sewer Entrance 4-pack, both of which would work well in modern, sci-fi and post-apocalyptic game settings.

Here you can see the two kits as they arrived, both are sealed in a plastic bag with an informational strip along to top describing the contents and price, and displaying the DLCD logo.

Lets take a look at the Sewer Entrance 4-pack first, this kit is available for $10 (around £6.25)

Here you can see all of the laser-cut parts that make up this kit, including 4 wooden bases (approx 3″ dia), the parts for three low and one high sewer entrances, plus a smaller bag of details.

The smaller bag includes the parts needed to build a ladder, plus the 4 grates and supporting rings.

Also included in the kit is an instruction sheet, explaining how best to assemble this kit.

We jumped straight in and assembled the single taller sewer entrance (using PVA glue) which includes a ladder for your minis to climb.

And here you can see the 3 lower sewer entrances you can build, we actually really like working with these laser-cut wood and board parts as they are so quick and easy to assemble.

The completed kit adds some good looking battlefield accessories which could also be used as objectives in your games. DLCD suggest  that “Enemy troops can infiltrate a city by sneaking in through these underground entryways. Or you can have underground critters come pouring out to ravage the town!” both of which sound great fun to us.

Next up is the 28mm Ruined Bridge kit. This kit is available for $16 (around £10) and DLCD also produce a non-ruined version if desired.

Here you can see the parts the parts that come in the kit, looks like a very straightforward build, and we like that DLCD have included the parts from the holes so that they can be used as extra details for the bridge or another terrain kit.

Another set of instructions are included here, a welcome touch even though we didn’t need them for this build.

Et Voila! Our 28mm Ruined Bridge is assembled. The completed bridge is approximately 11.25” long, 2.4” tall and can have a 6” wide model move over it, which means its useful even for your larger tanks and vehicles. Here we have included photos from various angles of the completed bridge.

As mentioned earlier, DLCD have included the shapes from the holes in the bridge which you can add for extra effect, use to enhance another kit, or use as a base for a terrain accessories like streetlights or objectives.

Here a small Warhammer 40k Space Marine force is making use of the Ruined Bridge, as you can see it can easily accommodate quite a few models, and provides some interesting cover along with a higher area to fire from.

Both kits work together really well and the whole lot took us less than 20 mins to assemble. We think they’ll be great in our games of Warhammer 40k & similar 28mm wargames!

We’ve found that with all of the DLCD kits we’ve assembled so far, that they’re quick and simple to build, look good, and are are lightweight and durable. We’d recommend checking out the Inspiration Gallery on the DLCD site if you’d like to see pictures of their painted and converted terrain, in particular there’s some great conversion work done with the bridge kits that’s worth a look. Overall we’re very happy with these kits and in our opinion they offer great value. If you’d like to see more of what DLCD have to offer, head over to http://demoslaser-cutdesigns.weebly.com/.
