We’ve been having great fun building the Base-0 kits from Systema Gaming, modular laser-cut MDF terrain kits for tabletop skirmish and wargames such as Warhammer 40k and Infinity. We’ve built 6 of these modular kits and so now its time to see how they all fit together!
Hee you can see the 6 kits we’ve recently build and reviewed. If you’ve not already seen them check out our HQ Unit review, Habit Units 1 and 2 review, Level 1 and 2 Walkways review, and Storage Silo review for the full details on the individual Base-0 kits we’ve built.
In preparation for combing these kits we threw down a green gaming mat which is 4×4 feet, a good size for many skirmish games like Infinity and Necromunda. For our first layout using the modular Base-0 sets we placed down the individual buildings and walkways, keeping all the buildings to a single floor to create a mostly single level sci-fi outpost.
Adding in some 28mm Warhammer 40k Space Marine miniatures for scale, you can see that this terrain provides good coverage of the table with plenty of interesting firing points and hiding places. Don’t forget you can place minis inside these buildings too!
For our second layout we combined these modular Base-0 kits into a more compact but much taller and multi-level battle zone. We’ve got large ground level platforms and many floors of buildings and structures all accessible by walkways and stairs. This kind of multi-level mayhem is exactly the kind of thing we like to make use of in our games of Necromunda.
Again we’ve added some 28mm Warhammer 40k Space Marine miniatures for scale, as you can see there are many levels to fight over, making this a really 3D battlefield.
For our third layout we decided to create a larger outpost of several decent sized buildings, all joined by a common walkway. This gives us a good mix of single and multi level structures to fight over.
Adding in our Warhammer 40k Space Marines for scale, you can see that there’s plenty of area to fight over, including the insides of these buildings.
It’s been a lot of fun assembling these Base-0 kits and then finding combining them in different ways. They are well designed so that all of the different kits in the range fit together nicely, and all are quite durable once assembled. We’re definitely going to make great use of these in our games, especially skirmishes that work well with lots of interesting cover such as Infinity and Necromunda.
